Accessible Information Standards Self-Assessment

Coquet Trust Completes Accessible Information Standard Self-Assessment

Coquet Trust is committed to making sure that everyone we support, their families, and carers can access information in a way that is clear, inclusive, and meets their communication needs. We are pleased to share that we have recently completed the Accessible Information Standard (AIS) Self-Assessment. The AIS is a national standard which ensures that people with a disability, impairment, or sensory loss receive information they can understand, and that they are provided with any communication support they need.

Our Assessment Results

The self-assessment has given us an honest picture of where we are now:

  • 6 areas rated Red – where significant improvement is required
  • 6 areas rated Amber – where some progress has been made but more is needed
  • 2 areas rated Green – where we are already meeting the standard

This tells us that while there are positive foundations in place, there is still more work to do to ensure that everyone consistently receives accessible information and communication support.

Our Action Plan

Following the assessment, we have developed a detailed Action Plan to strengthen the way we provide information and communication support. Some of the key areas we are focusing on include:

  • Improving identification of needs – enhancing our assessments so we fully capture people’s communication and information preferences.
  • Accessible formats – expanding the range of information we provide in formats such as Easy Read, audio, and large print.
  • Staff training – developing awareness training so all staff understand the Accessible Information Standard and how to apply it in practice.
  • Policies and promotion – introducing a clear Accessible Information Policy and raising awareness that information can be provided in different formats on request.

Next Steps

Our action plan is already underway and will be reviewed regularly to ensure progress is made. We have completed a number of items from the plan, with a reviewed self assessment result of:

  • 5 areas rated Green – where we are already meeting the standard
  • 6 areas rated Amber – where some progress has been made but more is needed
  • 3 areas rated Red – where significant improvement is required

We will continue to work with the people we support, their families, and our staff teams to make sure the changes we introduce are meaningful and effective. This is an important step in our ongoing commitment to inclusion, equality, and ensuring that everyone has access to the information they need in a way that works for them.
